A lack of access of feminine hygiene products is a problem that is happening all over the world. This issue is so problematic that it is seen as a public health and human rights issue. This problem is known as “period poverty”. Although these products are always available in local supermarkets or pharmacies, they are not always accessible and affordable to all women. “In the United States, most states still place a “luxury tax” on menstrual products” (Re). Statistics state that this results in nearly two-thirds of low-income women not able to afford menstrual hygiene products. But why? Shouldn’t all women be able to receive affordable or free access to hygiene products that are crucial to their health? After all, menstruation and body hygiene is something that comes natural in life. We do not have a choice but to deal with the nature of our bodies.
